Sickness Effecting Our Lives

What is a miracle? What are miraculous acts? True miracles are not the things that can be accomplished by human ability or human knowledge. A miracle is sometimes, most often times, things people don’t think would happen, not what couldn’t happen.

The miracles of scripture are very different than those of this world today. Motor city miracle, miracle on ice, and other sporting events typically are looked at as miracles. None of these “miracles” come close to that referenced in John 11:1-15. Lazarus, a sick man who ultimately died from this sickness. Although the sickness ultimately took Lazarus life verse 4 indicates, “this sickness will not end in death”. To the early body and earthly understanding of humans, Lazarus’ death was the end. In this case the miracle was truly more than something that probably won’t happen. The miracle was something that from human understanding and ability couldn’t happen. This miracle shows power, love, commitment, and authority. The raising of Lazarus from the dead is not expected by human understanding but the divine is not incapacitated by the lack of human understanding. God, YHWH, is the one who can perform miracles. Good can perform miracles through others but it is not the knowledge or ability of the human to perform this.

Humans can accomplish hard tasks. Humans can get through difficult things. True miracles are not the things that can be accomplished by human ability or human knowledge. A miracle is sometime, most often times, things people didn’t think would happen, not what couldn’t happen. During trials and major concerns humans typically doubt and show major concern. During difficult times God is confident, all knowing, patient, and able. At no point in the Lazarus miracle story did Jesus doubt or God panic. While those around Jesus were sad, confused, anxious, and angry, Jesus and God were one and showed the power of God and the deity of Jesus.

The entire Christian life is one of faith and knowing who is God. The story in John 11 shows the Glory if God and the power of God to do actual miracles True miracles are not the things that can be accomplished by human ability or human knowledge. A miracle is sometime, most often times, things people didn’t think would happen, not what couldn’t happen. True miracles are done by God, and through these miracles we know God and can put our faith and trust in the Lord.
